This is an interactive visual representation of the relative positions of the sun, earth and moon in relation to the presence of solar eclipse and lunar eclipse.

From this interactive 3-D representation, pupils can realize that we can see lunar eclipse at places falling into the moon's shadow. On the other hand, we can see solar eclipse at places in falling into the earth's shadow.

The visual representation of the final assignment is about eclipse. The geometry of the relative position of the sun, earth and the moon will result in different natural phenomenon.
Target audience: Primary four pupils. Subject: General Science Topic: Solar Eclipse and lunar eclipse
Media: Flash visual representation with user interface to provide interactivity in setting different scenario so as to enhance pupils’ concept about eclipse.
Variables: Rotation and revolution of the earth, revolution of the moon. A story-board will be drawn to show what and how to present eclipse.

In this session, I learn some basic skills of using flash. It includes creating button to control some action of animation. The congitive model of multimedia learning by Mayer gives me the guideline to use visualization to represent information in both visuals and text.

In this session, I learn about what is learning object and its classification (from Dr. Churchill). I appreciate the reusable nature of learning objects. Teachers have to integrate the computer skills with the curriculum, so that the teaching and learning materials developed become educational useful.

I have tried some of the learning objects in Churchill's web site (http://www.learnactivity.com), they give me insight in developing learning objects.

In this session, I learn how to create movie with PhotoStory. Story telling can stimulate and motivate students to accomplish learning task. This software enables us to make a video with photos. Story development undergoes the following process: select topic, conduct research, design storyboard, collect material, develop story, export video and delivery story.

In session two, the five visual displays of giant squid let me know what make a visual display effective. The use of visual display is to convey data, information, as well as knowledge. Thus we can evaluate the effectiveness of visual display by asking questions about who are the audiences, the relevance of the information, the way the information is presented, and the organization of the visuals and text.

Creativity is very important to visual design. The purpose of visual display is to enable visual thinking by conceptualizing our experiences as structures in motions. Images have a unique power to express multiple meanings at the same time.

Visual representation can be enriched by interactivity. While creativity is very important to their design.
